Anne Harrower (Jimanns) has been "in dogs" for over 30 years.
Starting out in English Cocker Spaniels, Anne's show career kicked
into gear in the early 1990's, and there's many-a-story from those
days, some of which Anne trots out, other's she'd rather stay
hidden. Submissions to the Guestbook on that topic most welcome.
Ridgebacks appeared in Anne's life when Hubby No. 1 took a shine to
the breed. Rogan re-arranged the Harrower household very
effectively, and the stories are endless, mostly involving chewed
white plastic (kettles, toasters, irons, telephones, garden
furniture etc. etc.) or the seemingly endless supply of foul odours
that can make a male Ridgeback such a joy to share a house with.
Rogan was not a show-dog at heart, however he was very popular
around the Cocker ring, and gave many an unsuspecting bench-wanderer
a surprise ("what kind of horse is that ?").
Rogan was rehomed during the breakup of Marriage 1- it was
heartbreaking to part with him. Anne was Ridgeback free for all of a
year, before Rhona arrived. This little charmer was a natural in the
show-ring, had some nice wins, including 1st Post-Graduate Bitch at
Crufts 2001, and continued to be shown for some time, until other
matters pulled Anne from the ring for a while. (Note that Crufts
2001 was the first Show attended by Keith, who was quite naturally
unimpressed - "surely you get a 1st all the time if your dog is so
much better than everyone else's dog - oh, that's just your opinion
- ouch - what was that for?")
Swinger, from Rhona's first litter, was never a show-girl. She had
some nice wins, but was never campaigned to her full potential due
to external factors. She's simply our Schwing-Ding, Sirius'
daughter, and so laid-back she's pretty much permanently horizontal.
She escaped the high-pressure Show Circuit and retired to blissful
obscurity.
Hashie, from Rhona's second litter, was again a bit of a show-girl.
With a name like Hashie Bashie it was inevitable she' be a bit daft
- little did we know..... Those same external factors were still
interferring, so again not seriously campaigned, but she did well
whenever she did make an appearance.
Vinnie (Jinky Johnstone - show-name not picked by Anne), was
originally homed as a pet. Returned to us at 6 months, Vinnie showed
great potential, and is a dog Anne's had a lot of fun showing. He
just missed a Junior Warrant by two points, and continues to do
well.
Hashie's first litter produced a wee gem - Prada. Very much a little
lady, she has done so well in her first 6 months of showing.
Obviously we hope she follows in her father's footsteps, although
that's a pretty tall order. We foresee a year on the road, and are
determined to see how far she can go. Top Scottish Ridgeback Puppy
for 2007 is a nice way to start a career.
Sully. What can we say. If you've met him, you know. There's a queue
of people wanting us to re-home this boy - to say he makes a lasting
impression is an understatement. If Sully could talk, his line would
be "Yeah...Whatever..... when's dinner ? Save my space on the couch,
and get that fire lit."
